Further to the Masterclass you attended in July’24 “Thinking about Sustainability: How can educators nurture students’ knowledge, skills and actions?” led by Dr Sally Birdsall – Senior Lecturer (Curriculum & Pedagogy), we are now delighted to announce the launch of our SDG Competition for students in Years 11 and 12.

I kindly ask you to review the guidelines provided below and to nominate two students who will collaborate on this team project. Please ensure that the nominations are submitted by October 3, 2024.

Who Can Participate?

• Only students in Class 11 or 12 can participate.
• Each school must nominate two students by October 3, 2024.

What Do You Need to Do?

Create an innovative business proposal to help improve digital literacy for students in underserved areas.

What Should The Proposal Include?

• Summary: A short overview of your project and its goal.
• Problem: Explain the digital literacy challenges in underserved areas.
• Solution: Your unique and practical idea to solve the problem.
• Execution Plan: Step-by-step guide on how you’ll implement the solution (with timeline and resources).
• Budget: The basic cost to implement the idea proposed.
• Impact Measurement: How will you track if the project is successful?

How to Submit:

• The proposal must be written in English and shouldn’t be longer than 4 pages
• Cover Page with brief executive summary
• 3 pages with the plan
• Any appendices
• Submit your project as a PDF.

Judging Criteria the judges will look at:

• Creativity and originality of your idea
• Whether the plan can actually be implemented
• How much it will improve digital literacy in underserved areas
• How clearly you present your ideas
• Whether your project can be scaled

Important Dates:

• Nomination Deadline: 3rd October 2024
• Proposal Submission: 10th November 2024
• Winners Announced: 2nd December 2024

Awards:

• The top 3 winning teams will get University of Auckland certificates and gift vouchers!

Other Rules:

• All work must be original and a result of the team’s own work. Support and guidance from Counsellors are allowed.
• No plagiarism
• Judges’ decisions are finals

The STEM-A-Thon is designed as a team-based competition, running from August 2024 to December 2024 over two rounds, offering students a unique platform to showcase their problem-solving skills, collaborate with peers, and receive mentorship from leading experts in the field.

This prestigious competition provides a unique platform for high school students in India to showcase their problem-solving skills to the expert faculty of Imperial College London. This competition is designed to inspire and empower young innovators, fostering global talent and innovation. We are thrilled to bring this opportunity to students across India, offering them the chance to work collaboratively on challenging problems and gain invaluable insights from world-renowned experts.

The competition is open to students of Grade 10-12 from CBSE, ICSE, IB and Cambridge boards, across India. We encourage you to share the information with your students from class 10-12th and their parents to nominate a team of 3 students and a chaperone teacher from your school to represent at the STEM-A-Thon competition, where 15 teams will be selected to participate in the final round in December at a Delhi venue to compete for exciting prizes.
