INTER-DPS ENVIRONMENT FESTIVAL 2022-23:

Under the aegis of The DPS Society, Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, New Delhi, organised its prestigious Annual Inter-DPS Environment Fest: Tenalach on 12 November 2022. Both on-site and off-site events were conducted, which had an overwhelming participation from 28 schools in and around Delhi.

Chief Guest, Padma Bhushan Shri V.K. Shunglu, Chairman of The DPS Society and Chairman Managing Committee of DPS Mathura Road and the Guest of Honour, Shri Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO of WWF-India graced the occasion with their august presence. The event saw a congregation of eminent dignitaries such as Smt. Madhu Shunglu; Ms Namita Pradhan, Honorary Treasurer of The DPS Society and Member of the Managing Committee; Dr. Kiran Datar, Member of the Managing Committee; Shri Promod Rawal, Member of the Managing Committee and Mrs. Dolly Chanana, Joint Director of The DPS Society along with other luminaries.

The on-site events included Trash Couture, The Green Entrepreneur, Nature on Canvas, Terrarium/Miniature Garden Making, and Envirno-Quizomania. The off-site events saw categories such as Book of Ideas, Voice it out, Envirno-Toon-The Comic Strip Challenge, Snapshots-Picture Perfect, and A Teacher’s Take On…Sustainable Living in the City.  It was a multi-disciplinary festival, where teachers and students of different age groups CONNECTED, COLLABORATED AND CELEBRATED the Nature. It created a positive space which facilitated the most powerful convergence of eco-passionate people to celebrate what we have and what we can create together. The festival strongly reinstated values of sustainable living and healthy environment.

The valedictory ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by the auspicious chanting of mantras. A mesmerising musical performance - Samagam, a collaboration between the Indian, Western and Instrumental and Vocal Music Club, enthralled the audience.

The school Principal, Ms Reema Sharma felicitated the dignitaries. In her speech, she mentioned that environmental protection is one of the basic prerequisites for the overall development of any country in the world. She emphasised that there is a need to instil values, foster beliefs, shift attitudes and help individuals reconsider environmentally harmful lifestyles. She also highlighted the eco-friendly school initiatives taken by the students of DPS Mathura Road and how they create abundant opportunities for them to realise their goals towards environmental enrichment. She expressed her gratitude to Padma Bhushan Shri. V.K.Shunglu, Chairman of The DPS Society and Chairman Managing Committee of DPS Mathura Road who has been motivating the school to make strides and was an inspirational force in organising this event.

The Chief Guest, Padma Bhushan, Shri V.K. Shunglu, Chairman of The DPS Society and Chairman Managing Committee of DPS Mathura Road, toured around and appreciated the young eco-crusaders for their spellbinding efforts and exceptional artistic fervour. He also addressed the audience with an enlightening speech mentioning how small endeavours could make a big difference. Following this, the Book of Ideas compiled by the Environment Council was released, which contained new and innovative ideas for environment conservation and implementation of the sustainable development goals.

The Guest of Honour, Shri Ravi Singh considered it to be a privilege and a delight to attend this environmental festival. He urged all to spread awareness of preserving the environment. He spoke very highly of the exhibition that was put up and highlighted the need to embrace environmental sustainability, to deliver long-term equitable growth, which benefits current and future generations.

An exhilarating dance performance on the theme ‘Save Mother Nature’ left the audience in awe.

Following this was the Prize Distribution Ceremony. The overall winner of the event was Delhi Public School, Indirapuram.

All in all, every student and teacher exhibited remarkable participation skills along with a stupendous team spirit. The gathering took a pledge to save the environment. The Vice Principal (Academics), Ms Inderjeet Kaur, delivered the vote of thanks and commended all the students and teachers for their efforts and endeavours to make the event a great success. The National Anthem was a befitting end to the spectacular Environment Festival.
