"The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another." -William James

In today's scenario, where every moment is a testing moment and where running hands of the clock remind us that we have to run and bear the load of responsibilities and live up to the expectations of everyone around us, stress is bound to happen. As teachers we know that term times can be frantic and long hours are the norm, so having the strategies to deal with stress effectively is of huge benefit to us personally and to the students and families that we work with.

In order to help the teachers to learn to keep the stress at bay, an In-house Capacity Building Programme on "Stress Management" was organized by Delhi Public School, Mathura Road on September 08, 2022. The resource persons for the webinar were Dr. Pooja Jaitley, Clinical Psychologist and Dr. Shubha Chandrashekhar, Founder-Director Anugraham, Fulbright Scholar, Arizona State University.

In the opening segment of the session, the keynote speaker discussed the first step of stress management, that is, identifying the source of stress in our life. She also mentioned that it is not as easy as that but it is essential. The true source of stress may not always be evident as we tend to overlook our own stress-inducing thoughts and feelings. Furthermore, she talked about the three domains of stress: Personal, Professional and Social. The speaker also laid emphasis on different kinds of stressors. Stress means different things to different people. What causes stress in one person may be of little concern to another. Some people are better able to handle stress than others. And, not all stress is bad. In small doses, stress can help you accomplish tasks and prevent you from getting hurt.

The second segment of the session provided teachers with effective tools and strategies to deal with their own and their students' stress. Through practical, hands-on activities, participants learnt how to foster their own well-being, and maintain a favorable climate in their classroom.

In the last segment, the participants acquired concrete methods and shared best practices to better manage stress at school as well as in their personal lives.

All in all, it was an insightful and interactive workshop.
